Adult Dyslexia Symptoms

Dyslexia is a condition that is common in certain adults. This refers to reading difficulties that involve finding difficulties with words and with the sequencing of sentences. There are various different signs of adult dyslexia to watch out for. If any of these signs are found then there will be a need for treatment and training in order to help take care of this problem so that one's life can improve positively.

One of the most common signs of adult dyslexia is that of a difficulty with sequencing words properly. This includes omitting simple letters in words, writing letters in the wrong order when using words in one's own written language and using syllables in the wrong order. The order of the alphabet is especially hard to remember for dyslexics. With this it can be difficult for a person to remember phone numbers or addresses because of the difficulty in getting numbers or spellings right.

Handwriting is something that will also be significantly affected. Writing that is generally illegible is common amongst dyslexics. Further, there might be some inconsistencies in writing letters and irregular sized letters as well as other characters. These are difficult concerns that can be signs of reading difficulties because of one's inability to be able to write everything correctly.

Adults with dyslexia might have an inability to read at a normal spped rate. When a dyslexic adult reads the person will be doing it very slowly and will be hesitant to read in some cases. Also, if the person reads slowly in a monotone voice every word out loud in reading material then that person could be dyslexic. It is also very easy to lose one's orientation when reading, and this is especially true with texts that have a great amount of closely related lines. A reader with dyslexia can easily repeat the same lines over and over without ever noticing.

Also, the inability to recognize punctuation is a problem. A dyslexic person would generally fail to recognize any stops or any other marks and therefore will not be able to recognize when a text is moving into a new idea or statement. This leads into the next concern, which is about memory acquired from reading.

Memory is one of the most essential reading difficulties that can be related to the dyslexic condition. If a person has finished reading something and can not remember much about what was just read then there may be some concerns involving dyslexia.

These are all important signs of adult dyslexia to remain aware of. This is a common concern among adults that can not only make reading difficult but it can impair one's ability to write as well as one's memory. It is a disorder that is especially difficult but can be handled when the signs of adult dyslexia are identified.
