How Adult Dyslexia Impacts on Spelling Ability

Spelling is one of the most important skills that are needed in everyday life. When one knows how to spell one will be able to appear more professional and it will be easier for one to remember data like phone numbers and other important statistics. This is not the case for adults with dyslexia, however. There are various different ways how adult dyslexia can impact on one's spelling abilities.

The possibility to fully recall the order of the alphabet or numbers is one of the most common difficulties involved with spelling. An adult who is dyslexic might end up using the wrong sequences when trying to write or order letters around.

One of the most significant writing impairments involved with adult dyslexia is the way that one writes out words. Dyslexics will spell out words that might not make sense but they still have the same letters in them. For example, a word like "solid" could be spelled "soled". This is quite a difficult concern because even though the person knows how the word is being said the letters that are used are nevertheless uncertain to the writer.

Another major reason as to why spelling is such a difficult thing for adults with dyslexia to do is because they are trying to spell words according to how they first sound to them. For instance, if a person hears the word "cat" and has to spell it out the person could spell it as "kat". This is a tough problem for people to watch out for.

This is also the case for individual sounds. When an adult is unable to write a letter when the sound for it is given then that adult can be considered as dyslexic.

One of the most serious of writing impairments will come also from numbers and number sequencing. When a person who is dyslexic is told to write down an address that person may end up writing numbers wrong. For instance, a person who has to write "196 Virginia Avenue" could end up writing "169 Virginea Avenue". This can be even more dangerous for phone numbers; a number such as "555-1235" could be spelled out as "551-2553".

A difficulty with the smallest words is the last of the ways of how adult dyslexia can be dangerous to one's spelling abilities. In many cases, a writer who is dyslexic will end up using the wrong connecting words in a text. That person could end up writing "for" instead of "from" in a spot where that word is required.

Adult dyslexia impacts spelling in all kinds of ways. Adult dyslexia creates writing impairments such as the ability to recall the sequence of the alphabet or numbers. It also impacts the way one is able to write out words. Remembering numbers can also be especially difficult. These are all important elements that show how difficult this condition can be to some adults.
